Discoveries?
Ans: With the Geographical discoveries of
15th and 16th centuries many hoaxes were cleared. New
trend was initiated with the discoveries. Along with spices many goods were
exported to European countries. With these discoveries political, social,
economical and trade developments took place which changed the basic structure
of Europe.
A.
Political Results
European countries acquired colonies
in America and Asia countries.
European nations competed with each
other for the mastery over colonies and trade.
European colonial policy and
imperialism led to bloodshed.
Newly emerged rich class and middle
class people of European nations strengthened system against feudalism.
B.
Social Results
Most
important social change was age old feudalism was uprooted and it was replaced
with evolutionism. New changes took place in Europeans’ life style.
Middle
class people replaced wine with coffee and tea in their morning breakfast.
As there
was a demand for Coffee, tea and tobacco products in Europe, Americans started
exporting them to Europe.
As the
Europeans and Americans needed cheap labour they used African Blacks as
labourers.
English
and Dutch people started slave trade. These blacks faced many hardships with
the new changes. Their lives were worse than animals in European society. They
were considered as the untouchables in European society. We can compare them
with the Harijans of India. This trade is the most heinous thing in the history
of humanity.
C. Economic Results
Europeans
grew rich with the establishment of colonies.
Trade with
Asia earned them thousand times profit.
As
Europeans had to trade with new countries they tended towards joint ventures.
These new partnership ventures and Banks furthered strengthened European
economy.
Europeans
designed new economic system which was called ‘Mercantilism’ which was
beneficial to them.
With this
Mercantilism new capitalists emerged and grew rich.
D. Cultural Results
European
culture and Christianity spread all over the world.
All the
countries of the world became familiar to each other.
People
started understanding and adopting others’ culture. Cultural assimilation took place.
These new discoveries furthered boosted social renaissance in Europe.
Changes
took place in economic, social, political and trade sectors due to geographical
discoveries. This had a great impact on the modern history.
