Question:
What are indulgence papers? Write about Pope Leo X. |
Answer: Pope Julius II was succeeded by Pope
Leo X. Pope spent all the money for the construction of St. Peter’s Church. As
a result treasury became empty. For the sake of money Pope restarted selling
indulgence papers. Pope Leo X firmly believed in enjoying the designation of
Pope gifted by the God.
Indulgence
papers are the official papers issued by Pope. Church started a pro indulgence
papers propaganda by saying that by buying indulgence papers people can free
themselves from the sins committed so far.
Indulgence
paper contains a promise written in the voice of Jesus Christ himself. I reads
….” I am Jesus Christ, with my power I
will make you free from all the sins and after your death I keep open the door
of heaven for you.”
Popes
propagated that, St. Peters earned excess merit or God’s grace by spreading
Christianity, and he permitted the Pope’s to share the excess merit to common
people. The people who believed in the words of Popes started buying Indulgence
papers to cleanse themselves from the sins. ‘Indulgence papers’ was a big scam
by the Popes.
In 1517
