Ottoman Turks gathered strength after Seljuk Turks and started playing key role in European politics. By 1350 they crossed Dardanelle straight and occupied Adrianople (present day Edrine).  In 1393 Ottoman Turks defeated Bulgarians. Just before the end of 14^th century Ottoman Turks occupied entire Balkan subcontinent except Constantinople. Pope expected threat from the raise of Ottoman Turks and instigated all the Christian kings to obdurate Turks. Kings of Poland and Hungary made very hard but unsuccessful attempts to cease the advancement of Turks.

In 1453, Mohammad II, Ottoman Turkish sultan, captured Constantinople and ended Eastern Roman Empire. This historical incident is reason for the beginning of modern age
