5. Accountability
Meaning:
Accountability in NGOs means being answerable to stakeholders, donors,
beneficiaries, and the government for actions, decisions, and use of resources.
Dimensions:
- Financial Accountability: Proper use of funds and transparency in accounts.
- Program Accountability: Delivering promised services effectively.
- Ethical Accountability: Upholding values like honesty, fairness, and respect.
Methods:
- Annual reports and audited
statements.
- Social audits and community
participation.
- Independent evaluations.
Example:
The NGO “Pratham” publishes annual impact reports showing how funds are
utilized in improving literacy rates among children. This transparency builds
donor confidence.
