Ans: 1st Continental Congress
was held in 5th September 1774.
Venue:
Philadelphia, capital of Pennsylvania.
President:
John Hancock.
Except
Georgia, remain 12 colonies participated in this congress. Georgia was fighting
a native American uprising with the troops supplied by the British.
Aim: To
resist the British parliament’s coercive acts.
Participants of 1st
Continental Congress:
Totally 56 representatives from 12 colonies participated in 1st
Continental Congress.
Extremists: Sam Adams and John Adams were the
representatives of Massachusetts. Patrick Henry and Richard Henry were the
representatives of Virginia. All these representatives were against Oligarchy.
Moderates: John Dickinson, an intellect from
Pennsylvania wanted to make a treaty with Britain. Extremists had upper hand
and his opinion was ruled out. Intellectuals published pamphlets, affirming the
right of self government, and
distributed them in the colonies.
