Ans: Peter Alekseyevich Romanov is the
full name of Peter the Great. He ruled Russia between 1682- 1725.

the Great was born in Masco. He was the 14th child of his parents.
Czar belongs to Romanov dynasty.

Peter the Great modernized Russia. Medieval period practices like Prostration
before Czar, and wearing curtain / veil were banned by Peter the Great.. Peter
befriended with European scholars to modernize Russia. This thought of Peter
changed the destiny of Russia.
Development
of Russian Economy: Immediately
after ascending the throne, Peter the Great concentrated on the development of
Russia. He realised that ports play important role in foreign trade and
occupied Arkenzal, Istonia and Livonia ports. While occupying them, Peter the
great made it clear that “he was interested in neither water nor land”. Peter also made it clear that ‘every act of
mine is intended for the development of Russia’. Peter commenced ’Warm Water
Policy’ with foreign countries.

sent 50 members team to Italy and Holland to study various sciences. Peter also
went in guise to learn new techniques. Peter the Great offered very large
amount as salary to foreign technicians who work in Russia. Printing machine
manufacturers were paid high to manufacture printing machines in Russia. He
wished that Russia should not be second to any nation.
Establishment
of Holy Seed:
As a part of his developmental strategy, Peter kept aside enmity with Orthodox
Church, and created amicable atmosphere. As a part of this Peter suspended the
post of Masco Patriarch and started a new institution named Holy Synod. Holy
Synod was under the control of a senior bureaucrat, and the Tsar appointed all
bishops. This Holy Synod served three purposes. 1. Previous patriarch was
superior to Czar. Replacing Patriarch with Holy Synod made people forget about
it very easily. 2. Holy Synod satisfied orthodoxy. 3. Holy Synod followed the
instructions of Peter the Great.
Peter
also order not to appoint clergy without the prior consent of church employees.
Other
reforms:
1. Peter divided the kingdom into Guberniyas for administrative
convenience. Military Governors were entrusted with the duty of administration
of Guberniyans.
2. Crossing all the odds, a new city,
St. Peter’s Burg, was constructed on the banks of river Niva.
3.
Growing beard and moustaches was considered as the medieval style. Peter
advised clean shave.
4. Long coats were banned and advised
to follow the style of France and Germany in dressing.
5. For the growth of modern ideas,
Peter encouraged party culture.
Thus
Peter strived for the development of Russia in every field.
